Titan Pollution Control Saves The Day at The Balcary Hotel in Scotland

TITAN POLLUTION CONTROL, the Kingspan Group PLC owned manufacturer of domestic and commercial sewage treatment plants, recently came to the rescue at the Balcary Hotel near Kirkubright after a failing septic tank and soakaway was making life miserable for the owners and residents alike. The situation had got so bad that the tank had to be emptied at least twice a week.

After receiving a call from the owners, Titan Area Sales Manager Bill Dempsie, along with Kenny Miller of The Drainage Centre and building contractor Brian Carson visited the site to assess the problem. After closer inspection it became clear that the existing soakaway was blocked meaning that effluent was backing up in the septic tank.

The principle problem lay in the fact that the large volume of discharge was not treated in the tank meaning the soakaway could not cope with the resulting effluent. Therefore, Bill recommended that repairing the soakaway would only provide a short term and uneconomical solution. He specified that a better option would be for the owner to install a 100 population Titan BIOtec and for a new soakaway to be constructed in a different location.

The team then arranged for Stuart Moir from Moir Environmental to carry out percolation tests and based on his findings he designed a bespoke soakway system to work in tandem with the BIOtec. The new configuration solved the problem and is now fully installed with a very happy and confident hotel owner!

Commenting on the installation Andy Thompson, Titan's National Sales Manager said; 'The problem at The Balcary Hotel is typical of the limitations posed by septic tanks across the UK. By looking at the client's individual needs we were able to specify the right system for him. This kind of industry and technical knowledge held by our sales team reflects our commitment to providing first class customer service'.
